Is It Safe?
The teeth whitening gel I use are 6% or 12% Hydrogen Peroxide which is New Zealand approved dental grade and is very safe.
How is the treatment preformed?
3 applications of hydrogen peroxide gel under LED light for 15 minute intervals. Allow 90 minutes for your appointment.
How many sessions will I need?
This is a two stage process. I recommend having two Whitening sessions 4 weeks apart.
Please don't be disheartened if you don't receive your desired shade in the first appointment.
Who is not suitable for this treatment?
Anyone under the age of 16 years old, pregnant or has dental conditions such as gum diseases or open cavities is not suitable for this treatment.
How long will my results last?
This will depend on your lifestyle, eating & drinking habits. Your results will last longer if you refrain from things such as coffee, tea & smoking. You can maintain these results by having annual whitening sessions.
How often should I whiten my teeth?
We recommend a touch up every 6-12 months depending on the amount of stains you have on your enamel. For heavily stained teeth or for ultra white shades we recommend a follow up treatment one week after your first treatment.
What results can I expect?
You can expect 1-8 shades whiter in just one sitting.
When can I eat and drink?
You can eat and drink straight after your appointment but you must avoid all high coloured staining food & drink for minimum 48hrs. We highly recommend a white diet.
Tooth Sensitivity – During the whitening process you may experience tooth sensitivity. This is usually mild if your teeth are not normally sensitive. There is always a risk of teeth sensitivity during teeth whitening sessions, so we suggest taking a mild painkiller before beginning the procedure. Sensitivity will completely subside within 24-48 hours.
Gum and Soft Tissue Irritation – Temporary inflammation of the gums can occur during the procedure. This is generally the result of the gums coming into contact with the whitening paste. Protective materials are placed in the mouth to prevent this, but despite our efforts, it can still sometimes occur. This is generally very mild and will completely subside.
Fillings and Other Dental Restorations – Tooth coloured fillings (composites), composite veneers/bonding's, porcelain crowns, and/or porcelain veneers may not whiten during this procedure.
White Spots – The most common thing that makes white spots is called "hypocalcification/ hypoplasia." This means there was less calcium deposited there while the tooth was developing. In some cases, after the whitening treatment, hidden white spots may be more noticeable. This will be less noticeable after a few days when your teeth remineralise.
Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the room due to Health and Safety Laws.
For the following 24 hours After Treatment you must:
Avoid any dark staining drinks like Tea, Coffee, Red Wine, coloured soft or alcoholic drinks and fruit juice.
Avoid all dark staining foods like Bolognese, soy sauce, red meat, chocolate and all fruit except bananas.
Avoid any foods or drinks that would leave a stain on a white shirt.
No Smoking for 24 hours, smoking a cigarette within the first 24 Hours will stain your teeth.
Some food and drink you can consume after teeth whitening
Of all the questions we’re asked after treatments on our customers, ‘What food and drink can I have?’ is the one that we’re asked more frequently than any others. That tells us one thing – we need to have a a go-to page that lists all the food and drink you can consume immediately after your teeth whitening treatment.
Here is a list of clear drinks and ‘white foods’ that are perfectly fine for eating and drinking after a treatment.
